My name is Mike Konners, and I live in Troy, Michigan. I grew up in Eastern Pennsylvania, and I spent the early years of my childhood in the Wilkes-Barre area (NorthEastern PA). I spent my Junior and Senior High School days in SouthEastern PA, about half-way between Pottstown and Boyertown. Anybody out there familiar with either of these areas?
My dad never showed much interest in cars, --to him, a car was just a way of getting you where you wanted to go, and back home again. But when I was 12 years old, we had a next-door neighbor by the name of Karl. Karl was a 19-year-old "James Dean type" who always wore blue jeans and a tight white T-shirt with the sleeves rolled up. (No cigarettes rolled up in there, -he didn't smoke.) Karl honored me by letting me be his go-fer and his third and fourth hands when he was working on his '34 Ford sedan. (And he was working on it almost every day.) -And then, when he worked on his '33 Ford coupe, and later, when he worked on his '41 Ford coupe. And my reward, along with the honor of helping him, and just being allowed to hang out with him, was when he would take me to the stock car races on Saturday night at Sanatoga Speedway, just a few miles East of Pottstown. (Pretty cool stuff for a 12-year-old back in the fifties!)
Although I hadn't thought about it for quite a few years, I can still remember the names of my favorite drivers back then. Monk Keller, Red Lesher, Mose Moore and his brother Harry)
That's where my love for cars all started, and cars have been a very enjoyable interest and pastime for me ever since.
Thanks Karl!

Well, if you like cars like I do, I'd like
to make you feel welcome by making this site a place on the web where people
like you and I can share our experiences, our knowledge, and our love of cars
and other things that we find we have in common.
CarDreamer.com was actually born the night before the
2000 Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit. (By the way, if you like cars, but you've never
attended the Woodward Dream Cruise, you don't know what you're missing! It's
the largest one-day car event in the world. Put it on your schedule!) The idea
had been rolling around in my head for at least a year before, but it was that
evening, while cruising Woodward Avenue, and seeing all the happy, friendly
people interacting, sharing and enjoying
their hobby, that I got gaught up in the spirit. (Officially, the Woodward Dream Cruise is a 1-day event, always on the third Saturday in August. But it has gained such huge popularity, that during the week before the Cruise, almost every night there's a HUGE "unofficial" cruise.) Anyway, I got the spirit and I decided it was time to register my domain name, before somebody else claimed it.
So, just before midnight, I went home and registered CarDreamer.com , and
printed off some flyers to distribute the next day at the cruise. What better
place or event to announce a new website for car dreamers than the world-famous
Woodward Dream Cruise?
I got off to a pretty good start on
building this site back in 2000, but I never got much traffic. And then a lot
of things happened, (like the "dot-com crash" and 9/11), and that
resulted in me getting side-tracked and neglecting the site for about 5 years.
Well, here we are in 2006, and I find myself kicking myself because I didn't
stick with it. So I'm starting over again, almost from scratch. But this time
we're gonna "Git 'er done"!
I've got some ideas for some things we can
do on CarDreamer.com, but I'm still open to suggestions. In fact, if you have a
good idea, I'm open to a joint venture. Maybe we can both have some fun and
make a little extra money while we're at it!
